From smoke-filled basements to half-lit freeway lounges, Muxty Smith & His Immemorium Jazz Band played the sets nobody could quite remember, except in fragments: a snare roll echoing like a dropped teletype, a horn line tangled up with feedback from a transistor radio. They were there, on the bill between acts you swear you saw but can’t prove existed, playing for an audience already drifting toward some other frequency.
